Thank you to all the people who have been contributing information to this list.
To make it easy to navigate we normally delete the name of the sender.
Please note: We have received many messages from people abroad offering to send toys and clothes to Israel. If you would like to send goods contact the appropriate agency to see if their need is current and exactly what they need.

An alternative, which may be the best choice, is to make a donation to organizations here in Israel that can purchase the toys, food, clothing or toiletries and get them to where they are needed quickly and efficiently.

We have tried to list as many web sites as possible of organizations that are seeking help. Some have on-line donation forms that accept credit cards.

Current
Information on sending goods to Israel This was posted to an Israel forum:

The unanimous conclusion is don't send stuff in bulk from the States

1) In general, the airlines do not give discounts

2) The various agencies here are not able to help out; therefore taxes and customs are not waived

3) People have been charged the maximum possible by customs officials, etc.

There's stuff that's been sitting in the airport for 5 months now, waiting to be release; donated items for needy causes.

Her recommendation is: send money, or send items in someone's lift (which may possibly cause problems if there's too much of the same item), or in people's suitcases coming to Israel.

In Solidarity with Sderot & other Bombed Areas,

I am organizing a cake collection (preferably home made, but can also be bought) and letters of solidarity (just as important as the cake – or more) .The package will be a part of a large group of packages from the Yehuda & Shomron area that will be distributed by Thursday afternoon. So if you think you can make this deadline, please contact me so I'll know if we have a large enough amount of cakes to justify a collection from Rehovot. There might be another collection next week. If so another email will be sent about it.

Please contact me by email at: stevenf@netvision.net.il

If you do not have access to email you can try my phone numbers, please don't leave messages with my kids. 08-9365313 057-5706592

Donation What is Needed: Emergency Respite For Families from the North

Details: The New Jerusalem Foundation (NJF), with the help of those who love and support Israel, has established an Emergency Respite Fund for families and their children from the North of Israel. To date, the NJF has provided hundreds of individuals with activity days in Jerusalem including visits to tourist attractions, pools, parks and the Biblical Zoo allowing them to "take a breath of fresh air" and receive the emotional and psychological support they need to cope with the crisis. Recently, the NJF in cooperation with the Jewish Community in Italy, has sponsored several trips for several hundred children to stay with families in Rome, giving them the chance to escape their cluttered existence in bombshelters in the North.

We need your support to help more scared children and their families maintain their routines and feelings of normalcy despite the wrenching terror which bombards them day in and day out.

Volunteers neeeded Hebrew speaking volunteers are needed to staff a phone hot line working around the clock, set up by the Jewish Agency,to address concerns of soldiers and callers from the North, located in downtown Jerusalem.

Housing needed I have staying with me two small families from Haifa, and because of unforeseen circumstances I need those rooms back by this Sunday or Monday morning at the latest. Two young couples, the husband of one is in Haifa working all week, and between them 3 samll children. Extremely nice people, very lovely children. They are Chabadnikim so would prefer a kosher house but they use their own things anyway (unless maybe they are hosted by Chabadnikim). If you can help, please call me at 566-2301 or 050-674-4872. Thanks very much.
Volunteers needed There are (I think) 200 Hebrew speaking religious people from Tzfat on Har Tzion by the Old City. They could really use some chizook. If any woman wants to come by and lead the woman in singing, or give them a concert, or some other sniyus form of entertainment one evening, it would be greatly appreciated. Call Shantelle at 052-580-6911
Volunteers needed Anyone who would like to join solidarity trips north at no transportation cost should please call yossi at 0526051009 or respond to this email. We have a busses leaving 9am this sunday from Jlem and Tel Aviv. We also have other busses leaving throughout the week. When calling please have your Teudat Zehut or passport number at hand so that we can write it down for insurance purposes. All trips are overnighters, so bring sleeping bag and food for 2 days.
Volunteers needed When Rabbi Chanan Kaufman, Executive Director of the Jerusalem Fellowship Program, who resides in Monsey, NY heard that people in the North were getting desperate and could no longer stay in their bomb shelters and that the trauma of being in a war zone was unbearable (especially for the children) he took action. Most of the students that he had planned to bring in from the States to tour and learn in Israel for the summer cancelled their plans due to the war. Rabbi Kaufman took the housing that he arranged for these students and gave it over to the residents of the North. He is now housing over 900 people in a hotel, in a hostel, in a school and in a development town. Though these accommodations are very crowded the families are receiving meals, babysitting, and most important a calming environment. But more help is needed!

We need volunteers to help solicit clothes for children (all ages), nosh for the kids, cleaning supplies, detergent, toys for kids, puzzles, games, toys for older kids like backgammon, dominoes, rummy cube, drinks, arts and crafts, pitchers for drinks, disposable plates, stroller, books in Hebrew.

It goes without mentioning that money can help provide the above as well. Any donation will be gratefully accepted.

If you can help please call Emuna 054-204-9434.

Donation During the last month, as Israel has found itself fighting on two fronts and struggling to meet the needs of over 400,000 refugees who have fled the north and constant katyusha rocket attacks, some brave volunteers and a generous donation has resulted in the creation of a flow of support and care packages for thousands of soldiers who were urgently called to defend Israel's northern communities.

The plan, called Operation Northern Points, is a joint effort of the Moskowitz family of Miami Beach, Florida and a team of dedicated individuals who drive north with vans packed with basic essentials. Risking much, these volunteers meet units about to enter Lebanon and ask their help in delivering these much-needed supplies even further northward to those on the front.

With smiles and hugs, the volunteers explain what they have brought, unload the supplies, spend some time with the boys and then, sadly, take their leave, hoping they will return soon and find the soldiers healthy and safe.

Uriel Fisch of Maaleh Adumim, who has traveled several times, spoke of the need to expand the operation, "The soldiers are so happy to see us, to thank us for what we have brought to them and to know that there are so many people, here in Israel and abroad who are worrying about them and what they need. Keep the money coming. We guarantee we will spend it quickly!"

To date, having made almost daily trips, the volunteers have delivered over 1,200 tubes of toothpaste, over 200 containers of mosquito repellent, 700 cans of deodorant, 540 containers of shampoo, 1,500 packages of moistened disposal wipes, and more than 1,000 packages of Q-tips. Especially appreciated were over 2,500 pairs of underwear, 3,300 pairs of socks, 1,400 undershirts, and even 85 decks of playing cards. The items in each van are varied and often include much-loved snacks, cans of soda and fresh bread and more than 2,500 packages of potato chips.

For the full story and pictures of this amazing operation...and what you can do to help - please see http://www.paulasays.com/articles/war_on_two_fronts/operation_northern.html

Spiritual help All of us have friends and relatives fighting for our country's safety and existence up north. Day in and day out our young boys are venturing off into the unknwon and putting their lives on the line so that we can sleep soundly at night. While Tzahal is demonstrating its greatest efforts across the border, the question is what we, as citizens on this side of the border can can do. Luckily there is a solution. Each day we read in the morning prayers, a list of duties which have no limit, such as leaving crops for the poor, acts of lovingkindness, honoring one's parents, and bringing peace between people. "And the study of Torah," the quotation ends, "is equal to them all." The reasoning is that the study of Torah will lead to righteous acts; therefore, study is the highest mitzvah, equal to all the rest. As Talmud Bavli also records (in Masechet Kiddushin 40b), the rabbis are said to have debated, "Which is greater, study or action?" Rabbi Akiba said, and the sages agreed, "Study -- if it leads to action."

Therefore, I am organizing a siyum of the five books of the Torah in order to help our soldiers. Each of the 54 parshas will be given to a different person (or group) and hopefully, by the end of the month we will proudly say that we completed the entire Torah with our kavanot (intentions) being to assist our brethren. The time to start helping is now as every moment in this war is crucial and the potential to save lives may indeed lie in our hands. As it says in Pirkei Avot 1:14, "If not now, when?" For those interested: please email batshevais@gmail.com with the subject S.O.S and I will send you a parsha to learn.

Donation We need desperately a lap top with fast internet capabilities. so I, Dr. Wendy Tikva Cohen can continue doing fundraising for the people of Tzfat f We are also in dire need of money, food and shelter for those still there and other Tzfat families who are temporarily elsewhere in Israel. Also we need shelter people to host singles, families in Jerusalem and surrounding areas.

Please contact me directly tikvacohen@yahoo.com or

Yaffa at Mortsmo@aol.com. If anyone has money they want to donate please email tikvacohen@yahoo.com and I will give you best instructions of how to get it to the people of Tzfat & the Mor Family. They need money to pay for food and necessities like medicines, rent, transportation, you name.

The Mor Family were bombed in the first days of this conflict. The rocket hit into their kitchen where 4 of their five small children and their mother. Revital Mor were standing.

The mother is in a cast with a broken leg and in a wheel chair, two of the 5 children were unconscious and all were hospitalized for a week at Rambam Hospital with heavy cuts and bruises.

They are currently recovering in Kibbutz Etzion and have no belongings left except some clothes donated to them.

Mr Tzion Mor is a Sofer and has no writing tools, etc. Mrs Revital Mor loves to paint oil paintings, sketches in pencil and charcoal, as well as Mr. Mor enjoys the same, for relaxation. The children love toys and need safe activites when they are not re-visiting Hadassah Hospital for follow-up treatments which is weekly if not more.. Monetary donations, art supplies, new clothes, shoes, and later items of furniture, cooking utensils, etc are needed. Whatever you can give!

Anyone who remains in Tzfat is able to work. But some shops are open on limited hrs for food and essentials. Many who have been injured or lost their homes to the rockets which made many direct hits to homes need everything and anything you can give.

Bless you all in advance with perfect Helath till 120 +

Volunteer mission to Israel A special volunteer mission to Israel will leave from NYC on Saturday night, August 12, on the 11:50 El Al flight. People will have the opportunity to volunteer, depending upon their preferences, either in the north, doing a lot of the things that would normally be done by Israelis who have fled the north during this very difficult period, or they will work in the center of the country helping the evacuees who have come from the north.

The program will run through Friday morning, August 18. There will be opportunities to extend the period if people so desire. The charge for the first 50 registrants will be $999. After that, it's $1,299.

Tzitzit for soldiers Klal Yisroel are, at present, in dire need of Hashem's mercy and compassion. It is imperative that we begin feeling and sharing the sentiments of those directly suffering. Feeling should lead to action together with and on behalf of our brothers. "Eis tzara hi l'Yaakov-It is a time of trial to Yaakov" means all of us.

There is a midrash that relates of a man drowning in a lake who cries to the captain of a passing boat. The captain throws him a rope to save and pull him aboard. Hakaddosh Baruch Hu gave us the rope of the tzitzis to grab in order to pull us close to Him. It is a shemirah, a protection, for our bodies and souls and a connection to Hashem.

A group of Boston yungerleit are embarking upon an imperative project of feeling for our soldiers, may Hashem protect them, identifying with them, and sending them 'the rope'. They are undertaking to send tzitzis to as many soldiers as possible and offering you the opportunity to share in this mitzvah.

The passuk says "U'ri'isem oso...va'asisem es kol mitzvosai". This alludes to the havtacha, the promise, that if one fulfills "U'ri'isem oso", one will be granted the privilege to live and fulfill mitzvos, may it be Hashem's will.

Clothing toiletries My son has been in Lebanon for the past 2 1/2 weeks. They are a unit of 56 boys who are fighting there. Needless to say they do not shower from one week to another and mainly carry in with them supplies for the week which has to include water supply and anything else they might need.

We are in direct contact with one of the Officers who has been collecting the items and taking them directly to the unit. He has asked us to collect various items of clothing and personal hygene items for them when they return to Israel

The list is as follows

  • White or Khaki Tshirts
  • Boxer shorts
  • Army Socks
  • Energy Bars
  • Soap
  • Tooth Paste
  • Tooth Brushes
  • Deodorant
  • Tissues
  • Shampoo

Further, we are trying to collect money so that we can also purchase something small to make their difficult time easier. This week leatherman type knives were purchased and next week we hope to purchase knee pads which are needed for their specific assignments.

If anyone can help with any of these items or alternatively make a donation so that these items can be bought we would be grateful but not half a grateful as these boys who appeciated the parcels that have been sent so far. You can be assured that any donations made go straight to them and are distributed immediately.

I thank you in anticipation

Spiritual Aid Safra ve Sayfa is a new unique project, whose purpose is to link a yeshiva student with a Zahal soldier, allowing him to adopt the soldier in his heart by learning in his name and praying for his safety. By connecting the soldier to Torah study and prayer, the yeshiva student lends strength to the soldier on the battlefield, while the soldier transforms this strength into defending and saving our Jewish homeland.

The project promoters are distributing sets with designer bookmarks each having the name of a different soldier as well as the name of his mother, to all different yeshivot in Israel and around the world. The yeshiva student will thus learn in the soldier's name and pray for his sake and by doing so deepen the connection between Torah learning and the soldier in the field.

The initiators of Safra ve Sayfa received the encouragement and blessings of many rabbis including that of the Rav Mordecai Eliahu to promote the program in all the yeshivot.

Soldiers who are interested in having yeshiva students learn and pray for them and their families are invited to send their names and the names of their mothers to: safravesayfa@email.com their name will be given to a yeshiva student somewhere in Israel or around the world. At the same time, yeshiva students are welcome to send an email at this address, to receive the soldiers' names.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering to promote the project or in distributing the sets with the soldiers' names to the different yeshivot around the country or around the world are welcome to contact:

Donation Many messages have recently been posted seeking help (material goods) for Tzfat residents hit hard by the current war. Many are still afraid to leave their shelters and have not worked for a long time and have not received salary or any other payment during that time.

Now the beginning of the month has arrived, the bills and rent are due and there is no money to pay them! These people face getting their utilities turned off or thrown out of their homes for not paying rent.

The situation for these residents, who have no place else or anyone else to turn to, including many elderly and disabled people and those with very large families, is desperate. Please open your hearts and contribute financially to them and help them to survive. Spiritual aid, partnering with Jews in Israel After hearing the heart-rendering appeal of Gedolei Torah to intensify our Tefilos and Torah learning during this very difficult time for Klall Yisrael in Eretz Yisrael, we have undertaken to join and add to their request.

The Torah informs us that in the war that Moshe Rabbeinu and Klall Yisrael waged against Midyan, Moshe “drafted” elef l’mateh, elef l’mateh --- one thousand soldiers from each shevet/tribe. The Medrash Rabba and the Yalkut Shimoni explain that in fact, each shevet sent one thousand pairs, two thousand individuals one thousand to fight and one thousand to daven. Each soldier had his designated person whose task was to daven and learn for his specific soldier colleague. And the Torah tells us- v’lo nifkad mimenu ish, no one was killed from amongst the Jewish Army.

We brought this idea to Rav Chaim Kanievsky, Shlita. He was quite happy about the idea and pointed out that Dovid HaMelech instituated the plan, as well. Each individual who was in combat had a designated person who was davening and learning in his merit.

Therefore, we ask of everyone –soldiers, residents of cities and towns that are under attack, those that are in shelters, all that find themselves in danger, to contact us, to give us your Hebrew name and the Hebrew name of your mother. We will find a Jew who will accept upon himself/herself to daven and learn, specifically as a merit for your safety and security.

We call upon the Jewish community –men and women, adult and youth, in the Diaspora, to join in this holy endeavor, accept a name of a soldier or civilian who finds himself/herself in danger. Bond with acheinu Bnei Yisrael in Eretz Yisrael and “partner” in Torah and Tefilah with a specific individual, have that person, by name, included in your Tefilos, Torah learning and acts of chesed.

If you wish to partner with a Jew in Israel, please contact us and we will share with you a Jew who would be honored and appreciative to be part of your Tefilos and Torah learning. By telephone, between the hours of 8-10pm in Eretz Yisrael, 011-972-2-581-1911; By fax, 011-972-2-651-2950; by e-mail MAORTLMO@Bezeqint.net

In this merit of our concern for each other, may we see a successful end to this war, as it says in the pasuk, v’lo nifkad mimenu ish, without the loss of even just one more person.

--The letter is signed by the Bostoner Rebbe, Shlita and Rav Simcha Hakohen Kook, Shlita.

--If we at National Council of Young Israel can assist in matching a concerned Jew with a brother or sister in Israel, a soldier or civilian, please do call upon us. Tel 212-929-1525 Ext 100/101; E-Mail Execvp@Youngisrael.Org

Spiritual Aid Aish HaTorah College of Jewish Studies for Women, is organizing a campaign "1000 Soldiers, 1000 Women Praying"

Our goal: to sign up 1000 women who will pray once a day for the welfare of Israeli soldiers who are fighting. The prayer can be expressed in any language and any form; from the heart, from a Siddur, from a Tehillim etc.

In the Torah, Bamidbar, Numbers: 31:1*, The Almighty tells Moshe to form an army to fight the enemy. He told Moshe to choose 1000 soldiers in each tribe and 1000 people to pray for these soldiers.

We want every woman to join. Anyone can join regardless of affiliation. Please submit your name and city name by clicking on the reply button. We will print out the list of 1000 women and send it to you. (When we reach our target goal we will start on the next 1000!)

Donation Dear Friend,

Our family just returned from Israel, we had a great time, got to visit many places and had a Texas - israel get together.

We happened to be in Tzfat and Meron the day the rockets started falling on those cities, thank G-d we did not hear or see it happen however, over the weeks we saw and heard from many evacuees and spoke to many friends a colleagues-- and they need a lot of help.

I am in contact with a few Chabad Rabbis in the area, this is the situation:

60% of the residents relocated. The 40% left behind are the "Miskainim beyoter" poorest and neediest who cannot help themselves. the Rabbis and volunteers are running selflessly from shelter to shelter to provide food, water, pampers, baby formula, toys and games to keep children occupied during long periods of time in the shelters.

Hundreds of people are jobless, some homes ands synagogues were destroyed- miraculously the casualties are low.

Some of my friends are right behind the army giving them morale support, some are bringing bottled water (you need gallons of water in outdoor Israel) and assisting them with donning Tephillin.

If you care to help, please write a check to:

I will forward the moneys to the Rabbis and organization directly

There are thousands of people in Israel who have been injured in terrorist attacks or who have family members that have been killed or injured. So many families have been torn apart, so many hearts broken, and so many lives shattered or lost. For the most part, these people have very few resources. Some have even less. Many of those injured or killed have been sole breadwinners and can no longer support their families.

NAVAH was established to assure victims of terror that they are not alone, that there is a place in our heart that feels their pain, and shares their suffering. The volunteers of NAVAH spend hours visiting victims after each attack, sitting by their bedsides, listening to them and encouraging them. The emphasis on bikur cholim (visiting the sick) is what makes NAVAH unique.

NAVAH's programs bring people from abroad together to help victims of terrorism repair their shattered lives. NAVAH distributes care packages, together with a monetary endowment from people around the world.

NAVAH has established the following ways for you to make a differerence:

With your donation, NAVAH will assemble and deliver care packages along with your greeting card to the victims of terror in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and at home. When NAVAH volunteers deliver the packages, they take time to get to know the recipients, to talk to them and to be there for them. These care packages make a huge impact on the recipients and do much to lift their spirits. Words cannot express what it means to a victim to receive warm wishes from someone who they do not even know, but who took the time to care.

Each victim that we meet is struggling both physically and financially. NAVAH distributes monetary support that will help victims get through the beginning stages of their recovery and continue to assist them during their rehabilitation. In general, most of the victims of terror are ordinary Israelis, with few financial resources. Help us to help them. Make a donation so that we can distribute as much money as possible and help these victims with their various needs. (Donations are tax deductible in the USA.)

NAVAH invites all schoolchildren from around the world to express their concern for their Israeli brothers and sisters by drawing pictures and writing messages of support. From our experience, the pictures that we deliver to victims of terror from these children have impacted them a great deal. Encourage your school or synagogue to get involved in this worthy initiative.

In this past week, another 1500 children have been taken into the MIGDAL OHR facilities. One week ago we wrote you about MIGDAL OHR. Situated in the North of Israel, its leader Rabbi Grossman, having decades of experience dealing with children from broken homes and impoverished families responded to the current need of the children in the embattled North to organize summer camps in central Israel to provide a better, safer, saner, living environment for the children. The team of educators and professional psychologists chose four suitable sites: Nachalim (Gush Etzion area), Even Shmuel (near Kiryat Gat), Neveh Hertzog

in Ashdod, and Petach Tikvah. Within 24 hours the camps and programs were organized and children were quickly relocated to Central Israel. The cost per child is $650. The first Israel Lives article was the first most readers had heard of Migdal Ohr – Gratefully, many contributed. However as a week of further bombardments followed, the needs of Israeli children in the North increased and the numbers of needy children increase.

Dror Vanunu, Gush Katif leader, reports that “Many families from the north are being hosted in the crowded caravans of the Gush Katif evacuees. Understanding the trauma of losing one’s home, many Gush Katif adults and youth have traveled north to help prepare bomb shelters and deliver aid to the adults. The Gush youth of the caravan community of Nitzan, near Ashkelon, organized activities for hundreds of children from the north to give them a feeling of warmth and security, fully understanding their feelings of displacement, homelessness and fear.”

To help the families of Gush Katif, monies are being collected by

Donation The Gush Etzion Foundation, Shani Simkovitz Director sent out this email dated Tuesday, July 18, 2006

I have just come from an emergency meeting concerning the situation of our brethren in the North. We are hosting at this point in Gush Etzion and Efrat, close to 300 people and by the end of the week 500 and more if needed. There are lists being prepared by our social services in coordination with the municipality of Karmiel, Moshav Or Haganuz, Moshav Bar Yochai and families from Tzfat and the Bay area outside of Haifa.

The families that are arriving are already in private homes amongst our communities and in the dormitories of our Educational facilities throughout Gush Etzion and Efrat. These facilities have the proper accommodations that will service rooms and a dining hall with hot meals, and activities for the children. We are opeining our hearts to them and trying to give them some minimum relief in the hope that this will pass and they will be able to return home soon. Many of our local residents are involved the logistics, planning hosting, and opening their homes on a voluntary basis, including out youth.

We cannot fund the food for all these people on our own. The cost of a person a day is $10 for meals and $3 for activities and transportation for the kids.

We ask you at this time of emergency to help us now! Help fund a brother from the North by sponsoring them! You can really help!

Tax deductible donations: to be made out to Gush Etzion Foundation for "Help to the Tzafon" (North) Project

Donation At this very moment, families from the northern town of Ma'alot are moving into the yeshiva dormitories after living for more than two weeks in underground shelters to seek refuge from the endless barrage of devastating missiles. Our staff is working around the clock to make their stay comfortable and make them feel welcome. Our dorms are fairly new and modern; every family is assigned a room with three beds, attached shower and private toilet facilities. Large families get a double room. Linens, cribs and playpens are provided by the yeshiva and they can take meals in the communal dining room. Each family arrived with a limited supply of clothes, toys, toiletries etc. and as things get sorted out, our greater yeshiva family will have to help out and provide necessities.

Our very special guests are not being asked for any payment, it is our privilege to host these courageous Jewish families. We are turning to you, our loyal friends, to join us as partners in this mitzva of "hachnasat orchim" . Our forefather, the Patriarch Abraham, was renowned for his welcoming guests into his Hebron tent and millenniums later, we in Kiryat Arba continue the tradition.

Doulas for Northerners Several professional Doulas (a Greek word meaning "woman helping woman") in the greater Jerusalem area are offering their services gratis to pregnant women from the North who are seeking refuge in this region.

A Doula is also known as a labor coach, labor assistant, birth assistant, among other things. She provides (non-medical) physical and emotional support to mothers during the birthing experience, whether in a hospital, birthing center or at home. She answers questions and works as an advocate to complement the Midwife's (or Doctor's) medical expertise. Her primary focus is to nurture or "mother the mother" especially during labor.

With the added stress of our national situation at hand, having a baby right now could be extremely fraught with undo tension.

A Doula could be exactly what needs to help usher in a new life with dignity and peace of mind.

Clothes, food, toiletries needed - Raanana I know everyone has been helping incredibly with anything they can. Last weekend I visited a youth hostel in the area that is now hosting approximately 100 people from the North - about 30 families (including grandparents, kids, babies, pregnant women, etc.), mostly from the poorest cities in Israel (Akko, Carmiel, Naharia). I went there to deliver Friday night dinner - loaded my car with food that was made by volunteers. I really got a first hand look at what's happening to so many people. I took the opportunity to sit down and talk with many families. Anyway, pretty sad stories. Most of them actually fled their homes and hardly had time to bring or pack anything. Almost all of them told me that the rockets had fallen literally meters from their homes and they just couldn't take it anymore, especially because of the kids. Also, it seems that everyone there is in such a sad, depressed mood and there seems to be a lot of fighting and tension among the families. Anyway, what is most urgently needed is the following.

  • Clothes - all sizes (men, women and children
  • Shoes - for kids and toddlers
  • Diapers and wipes
  • canned goods they can keep in their rooms
  • all toiletries - soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes
  • deodorant
  • razors and blades
  • sanitary products
  • Games and toys for the kids

Thank you so much, as always. Please feel free to call me. The stuff can be delivered to my home or I will gladly pick it up.

However, the apartment is empty and does not have any furniture, beds, etc. If anyone knows where some furniture can be donated short term (and delivered) to make the apartment habitable, we would appreciate it so we can let a family from the north live there. We especially need a refrigerator and a stove and oven. The furniture and appliances can all be returned when the family returns home.

We don't have a car so we can not pick up the furniture ourselves.Your suggestions to allow us to help others are much appreciated.

Donations The Jerusalem College of Technology (JCT) -Machon Lev has opened its doors and is hosting 200 people, families and children, from the North of Israel on the Givat Mordechai Campus in Jerusalem. Amongst the families from the North staying at JCT are families of students who come from Kiryat Shmonah.

The families are in great need - some do not have any money, others need linens, toys etc.

One family with eight children are originally from Gush Katif - this is the second time in a year that they have had to leave their home. The father has been hospitalized from all the stress. The mother is trying to cope as best she can with her eight children. They are in dire financial straits. JCT is providing these refugees with free board and lodging and have helped them to buy essentials. Student volunteers from Machon Lev are helping with activities day and night. The computer labs and exercise room are open for their use. This Shabbat 300 people will be eating at Machon Lev.

JCT is not receiving any help from the government.

Just seeing these poor people walking forlornly around the campus makes one appreciate how "lucky" we are here in Jerusalem and the rest of the world. Please help JCT's emergency campaign for our brothers and sisters from the North.

Tax-exempt donations can be sent to the Emergency Campaign for the North, Jerusalem College of Technology, P.o.B. 16031, Jerusalem 91160 or dropped off at my home

Donation I know you are aware of the very difficult situation facing our people who live in northern Israel.

In particular, the people of Tzfat have suffered numerous attacks, homes have been destroyed, people have been injured and many have left the city for fear of further attacks.

I have been working with the Arzei Halevanon Mechinah (pre-military Yeshivah) in Maale Ephraim in the Jordan Valley to provide shelter for "refugees" from Tzfat. The school is closed for the summer and most of their students are now serving in Gaza and Levanon.

The school has opened its doors for people from Tzfat and can accommodate up to 150 persons. However, there is a need for funds to provide them with food, clothing and their every day living needs.

There are now 50 people from Tzfat living in the Yeshiva. They received vouchers from the municipality of Tzfat that will cover their needs through this Friday. We are seeking funds to provide for them until they can safely return home. In addition, we would like to accommodate additional families from Tzfat who need shelter, all of which requires funds.

The costs of this project is 100 nis per person for 1 day (other areas charge 130). They have 150 beds and provide food and activities (transportation, swimming pool etc). We can accommodate 150 people at a cost of approximately $3,500 per day.

Tax deductible contributions can be made through Central Fund for Israel: checks should be made payable to "Central Fund of Israel" and should be earmarked for "Arzei Halevanon." Checks can be sent directly to the Central Fund of Israel at

Donations for Safed I would like to bring you up to date of some of our additional work Colel Chabad has be doing to help during this current crisis in northern Israel.

Safed is one of the primary targets of the Hezbollah rocket attacks because it is the location of the “Pikud Hatzafon” (IDF headquarters for the entire northern Israel) as well as the venue for numerous highly sensitive and strategic military installations. The military HQ is right next door to the Colel Chabad food bank.

For the residents of Safed, the situation is a catastrophe. Stores are basically closed, food is scarce, fathers and mothers cannot go to their jobs to earn their living and yet, are required to remain in cramped shelters. Safed is mostly a poor community to begin with – and the halt to its economy is devastating for families who live from hand to mouth under the best of circumstances. 60% of the residents relocated. The 40% left behind are the “Miskainim beyoter” poorest and neediest who cannot help themselves.

Colel Chabad has been working in Safed for many years - actually over two centuries. We run the only soup kitchen in Safed, the only Meals on Wheels, a subsidized Pediatric Dental Clinic, A Medical Clinic, Food Bank that serves dry goods and staples to over 500 families monthly, and many other programs. (We have received many awards from the local government in the past for our work.)

With our deep roots, we have become the official provider of emergency relief for the residents of Safed during this current crisis. Anything needed, the local municipality calls upon us. We provide food, water, pampers, baby formula, toys and games to keep children occupied during long periods of time in shelters.

FBI Warning Washington: Western governments are heightening their alerts for possible reprisal attacks from Hizballah on Jewish and Israeli targets. The FBI last week sent out a memo to its regional offices as a general warning that such strikes could be coming. While both the FBI and Jewish organization officials familiar with the warning stress that no specific threats against American Jewish targets have been detected, Jewish organizations passed on the information to member groups last week through the recently created "secure community network," which was established to share threat data for Jewish organizations. An FBI spokesman said yesterday that there was no information of an "imminent attack" from Hizballah, but that the bureau had increased its focus on the group now fighting Israeli special forces in southern Lebanon.
Already, according to the Globe and Mail newspaper, British counterterrorism officials have said they are raising the alert for attacks on Jewish and Israeli targets in Britain. On Monday, the German newspaper Bild quoted the German interior minister, Wolfgang Schaeuble, as saying, "The longer the conflict continues, the greater becomes the danger of terror actions in other countries." "This was a general advisory," the executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Malcolm Hoenlein, said yesterday, referring to the FBI memo. "We have not heard anything that would indicate a specific threat. This is more of a general concern," he said.

Clothing Needed Clothing Needed

Since all the gmachs are closed in Tzfat, there are people who are in need for everyday clothing such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks, pants etc. in all sizes children to adult - that are no-fuss and can be worn in shelters and security rooms in comfort. Material that breathe such as cotton are the best for these conditions. I'd like to coordinate donations to a safe depot place where people can come and pick up what they need. Please contact Zilpah manna04@zahav.net.il

Current
Donation The AMIT volunteer organization has responded quickly to the needs of children and families North and South.

--Over 200 families from the North are staying at the AMIT Kfar Batya Youth Village, where they are provided with housing, three hot meals a day, toys, basic necessities (shampoo, soap, etc) summer camp activities (swimming, sports) and psychological support.

--The beleaguered children of Sderot have been brought to Kfar Batya for "fun days" --totally at the expense of AMIT

--Many AMIT schools throughout the North (Haifa, Acco, Ashkelon, Tzfat, Carmiel, Hatzor, Rosh Pina) have sustained damage. We must incur the cost of making immediate repairs, so that our schools can open on time--and we pray that they will!

We are moving ahead quickly with this effort to raise funds.

Cell phone loan Cellphone urgently needed on loan -- to help those unable to get out of their homes & shelters in Tzfat.

We have a brave Tzfat lady who is visiting in Jerusalem today and coming home to Tzfat tomorrow , bez"H'.
Devorah Leah is willing, eager and unafraid to drive through Tzfat and help people too scared to go out, or without any wheels. She needs a cellphone to do this. She's in Jerusalem today Thursday, July 19th and hopes to
leave for Tzfat tomorrow,Friday, the earlier the better.

Whoever is willing to lend a good, reliable cellphone and charger -- and is in Jerusalem, or somewhere on the route between Jerusalem and Tzfat
-- please call her friend, Zahava at 054 457-9576.

If you leave a message, say that you are calling for Devorah Leah. The cellphone should be able to hold a charge for a normal duration. If someone else, or the same person, would like to pay for the usage, that would be wonderful. Don't hesitate to lend your phone because of the usage costs -- it will be paid for by someone else if you can't afford it. I'll guarantee that personally. I have gemach money if no one comes forth to pay the bill.

Children will go to the day camp at the community center.

Public Relations This was received from a non-Jewish journalist for a community newspaper in the US.

Please encourage your friends in Israel who came from the US to call their former hometown papers in the United States and tell them about your plight.

You will be amazed how happy local community newspapers in the US are to print such stories, and to have you send them photos on the Internet.

The large city newspapers are not so interested in such stories, but newspapers in smaller cities and towns, and especially weeklies in the US love those stories. If someone has a close relative or friend in east podunk, USA, write to the friend/sister/brother and tell them to call the editor at their weekly newspaper and tell them how worried they are about you....and ask them to tell the editor that you will be glad to talk with them.

Then, give them graphic details...i.e. the missile landed at the edge of my flower garden...let me send you a photo of it....

This very scenario played itself out in my area last week...An Israeli husband, who is here in the US, told his story of concern for his wife....The next day the newspaper contacted the wife in Israel, and she told her story....and sent photos.

Housing Many overseas residents own apartments in Jerusalem and other relevant areas of the country, that are currently unoccupied. At the same time up north, some of our brothers and their children are living in depressing and dangerous conditions in bomb shelters. You probably also know people who have empty apartments or apartments with extra space. So how about striking a match! If you have an empty apartment or know someone who has one or if you can host northern residents, please contact me.

Likewise, if you live in the north and feel like heading south for a few days.

I already have space for a family in a furnished apartment in Jerusalem that sleeps 4, and room for a single mom with up to three children in Givat Zeev. More apartments on the way...

Ear Plugs
There's someone staying in my building who has spent the last 7 days in a bomb shelter in Nehoria.

She's exhausted. A Jerusalem Post article also pointed out that one of the most difficult things for people in the line of fire to deal with is the inability to sleep.

The best ear plugs I've found are called Quies Ear Plugs made of Natural wax. They adjust to the contours of each person's ear and work better than conventional foam ear plugs. The pharmacy on Hizkiyahu Hamelech and Rabbi Zeira sells them, but a friend bought them elsewhere. I think their sold at pharmacies everywhere. They work great against city noises, and Be'ezrat Hashem they may enable people under seige to sleep.

Donation Hazon Yeshaya www.hazonyeshaya.org/frontline.html is helping women and children whose fathers and brothers have been called up to the front line. Hazon Yeshaya is distributing food, under fire, to families spending their days and nights in bomb shelters throughout northern Israel.

Thousands of families have fled south to Jerusalem, and are eating daily at Hazon Yeshaya's central soup kitchen. Without sufficient dining space indoors, temporary tables have been set up in the outside courtyard to ensure that no one gets turned away.

500 children are being hosted at local day camps in Rishon Letzion - a great change from the bomb shelters. Hazon Yeshaya’s Rishon Letzion branch has committed itself to providing meals to all of these children on a daily basis, as well as assisting hundreds of children harmed by Kaytusha rockets.

In addition to its campaign in the north, Hazon Yeshaya's Sderot branch is serving the southern communities under Kassam rocket attack from Gaza.

Hazon Yeshaya is appealing to its supporters and friends around the world to raise badly-needed funds to help provide this urgent humanitarian aid for the duration of this crisis. For more information, please contact Shira Jacobson at pr@hazonyeshaya.org or at (972-2) 538-1141.

Toy Donations As the owner of www.toystore.co.il I am leading my own personal campaign to send thousands of dollars worth of toys to the children of Northern Israel.

As of Friday, July 22, we have distributed over $12,000 of toys. Some of the recipients of our donations have been Rivka Ziv Hospital in Safed (Tsfat), city wide Community Centers in Safed, the Merom HaGalil Regional Council (who has distributed to their 24 towns and villages), and city wide Community Centers in Tiberias.
We are supplying all the toys and games at cost plus 10% to cover expenses.

On most of the toys sent up last Friday, www.ToyStore.co.il was able to obtain a 30% discount on WHOLESALE prices. So the donations really went a long way.

Volunteers in Tzfat We are looking for volunteers to come to Tzfat..Now.

The city is far from a ghost town, as hundreds if not thousands of families have remained in Tzfat, spending the majority of their days and nights in bomb shelters located across the city.

Livnot is looking for volunteers to come up to Tzfat to spend this week, July 23-27, and then to help the local Tzfat community. There is so much work to be done for these families who have been confined to bomb shelters, including: preparing and serving meals, making repairs/improvements on bomb shelters that were not prepared for lon term use, helping out with elderly citizens who are on their own, and playing with children.

I want you to know upfront that rockets have landed in the vicinity of the Livnot campus located in the Old City of Tzfat. We cannot guarantee anyone's safety. What we can promise is that you would play a huge role in serving the people of Tzfat and all of Am Yisrael in a time of need.

You will be provided with a place to stay on the Livnot campus, and your Shabbat meals will be taken care of. The more volunteers who come up, the bigger impact we can have on the families who have no place else to turn. If you are interested, call Aharon at 052-429-5376 to make arrangements. No e-mails please.

There are Egged busses running to Tzfat. Please call Egged at 03/ 694-8888 for times.

Finally, volunteers who do arrive will be asked to sign a waiver clearing Livnot of any liability in connection with your stay at Livnot and time in Tzfat. Volunteers do so at their own risk.

We hope to see as many of you as possible.

Security Alert for Canada From B'nai Brith Canada
SECURITY ALERT To Synagogies, schools, & community organizations in Canada

Following consultations with the RCMP and new information from Israeli intelligence, B'nai Brith Canada is issuing the following SECURITY ALERT to all synagogues, schools and community organizations, as well as individuals.

According to sources in Israel, Hezbollah "sleeper" terror cells outside Lebanon have been put on standby and may be planning attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets throughout the world.

In recent days there has indeed been an increase in threats and incidents, including a bomb threat against a synagogue, and worshippers being stoned after evening prayers.

At this time we are re-sending our Twelve Warning Signs pamphlet, which gives details of what to look for at this time of heightened tensions, and when to call the authorities.

The RCMP has given us a Hotline number to share with you. If you see anything suspicious, call immediately:

RCMP Hotline: 1-800-420-5805

B'nai Brith Community Hotline:1-800-892-2624

Jewish institutions are certainly at risk, having been threatened by entities connected to international terrorism, and reconnaissance activities of Jewish schools, synagogues and community buildings across Canada have been carried out by persons unknown.

Everyone must remain vigilant at all times. The following should be treated as suspicious and reported to security staff on site, if available, or directly to the police:

1. Theft or loss of badges or other identification
2. Photographing, sketching or surveillance of facilities
3. Trespassing near secure areas, especially by a number of persons
4. Persons searching through garbage sites or leaving unusual items there
5. An increase in the number of false fire and security alarms
6. Unknown workers trying to gain access to facilities for repairs
7. E-mails or calls requesting details about your facility, personnel or schedules
8. Unusual patterns of activity around your facilities
9. Suspicious mail packages which might contain noxious substances or bombs
10. A large group of men occupying a nearby residence with no apparent daily schedule
11. Persons interested in renting office space or equipment with no declared function, especially if a cash deal is suggested
12. The smell of unusual chemicals coming from any building or facility

Should you notice any of these warning signs, inform the authorities immediately. However, at no time should individuals put themselves at risk by challenging any individuals or investigating any premises themselves.

Donation Carmei Ha'ir is currently conducting its “Summer Rains” campaign that is mobilizing donations to help both our soldiers who are risking their lives in the battles on Israel's northern and southern borders and the residents of northern Israel who are now in air-raid shelters and who need our encouragement and moral support. Many Jerusalemites have responded and are sending, through Carmei Ha'ir, gift packages containing candies and snacks, as well as thank-you letters, books of Psalms, personal letters from children to our soldiers, and packages of basic commodities for the member of the Israel Defense Forces, such as underwear, towels, shampoo, etc. In addition, we are raising funds to collect toys, games, handicraft materials, pictures for coloring, and stickers – in short, a variety of items for distribution among the children in northern Israel who are being forced to spend their summer vacation in air-raid shelters as missiles are being launched at communities throughout that part of the country by Hezbollah. These items are intended to lift their spirits and to demonstrate to them how much they are loved.

A personal appeal !!!

Carmei Ha'ir and the Sayada family of Moshav Safsufa in the Galilee are seeking solutions for the residents of the most heavily bombarded area in the country and are asking for help in a unique project. The families that have been in shelters for so many days desperately need to breathe some fresh air and to emerge from the four walls of their shelter and from their frightening situation.

A number of generous individuals have already contributed funds that can enable dozens of families to spend a few relaxing, soothing days in hotels throughout Israel. If you can make a donation that could pay for the accommodation of one family or more in a hotel for a number of days, we would be delighted to help you contact these families.

We are hopeful that you will regard us as your worthy representatives in this most important project.

Write letters & call Following NGO Monitor's July 18 report, "NGOs quick to exploit Lebanon Crisis to attack Israel," a number of NGOs have issued further statements, many of which focus disproportionately on condemnations of Israel.

Common themes among the NGO statements include:

Accusations of "disproportionate force" by Israel, with no explanation of what would comprise a proportionate response to Hezbollah terror attacks.

Criticism of Israel's targeting of bridges, major roads and the Beirut Airport as "collective punishment," despite the clear military rationale of sealing off air and sea ports, roads and other such targets to prevent the re-supply of arms from Syria and Iran.

No mention that Hezbollah's concrete reinforced military headquarters are located under buildings in southern Beirut, and that the positioning of military/guerrilla installations in residential areas is considered a war crime, as defined by Protocol I (1977) to the Geneva Convention, article 51(7), relating to human shields. Hezbollah also stores and launches missiles from civilian villages in southern Lebanon, but no NGO explores the human rights implications of Hezbollah's use of human shields.

Few NGOs call for the release of the two abducted Israeli soldiers.
